![]() The issue of Spell Slots can get complicated when Multiclassed sometimes, especially when it involves a feature that specifically calls on that class's Spell Slots like Divine Smite does.ĭivine smite doesn't specify a paladin slot the way eldritch smite specifies warlock slots. You invested Levels, you sacrificed 2 Spell Slots, you invested your Pact Boon, you invested your Invocation. I would say that because it requires a lot of investment and sacrifice to use both. Now we reach the final point of the question, "Can I Divine Smite and Eldritch Smite for the same attack?" The answer like most answers is, "What does your DM say?" If I DMed your game I would say, "yes". Two, paying the cost of one Feature does not pay for the cost of another Feature, even if they have the same cost. Even if Multiclass Spell Slots can count as Spell Slots of other classes, Pact Magic is never calculated into Muticlass Spell Slots, they are always separate. One, because Eldritch Smite requires a Warlock Spell Slot, which is always separate from other Spell Slots. Luckily Warlock Spell Slots are always separate from other classes's Spell Slots, so we don't have to debate whether Multiclass Spell Slots count as Paladin Spell Slots.Theoretically, if you can do so, to activate both would require 1 Paladin Spell Slot and 1 Warlock Spell Slot. The issue of Spell Slots can get complicated when Multiclassed sometimes, especially when it involves a feature that specifically calls on that class's Spell Slots like Divine Smite does. You could also use Eldritch Smith Feature and activate Branding Smite's effect on the same Attack. So you could do both of those for the same attack. Eldritch Smite is basically the Warlock equivalent, so putting aside the issue of Divine Smite and Eldritch Smite, those previous things a true for it too. You can certainly expend a Spell Slot to Divine Smite when you hit. You can certainly have the Branding Smite active when you Hit a creature. It is simply something you choose after Hitting a Target with a Melee Weapon. The imp is also very strong, tome gives you ritual spells (so a lot of additional casts with your limited spell slots) etc.Monstrous Compendium Vol 3: Minecraft CreaturesĪs stated previously, Divine Smite is not an Action, nor a Bonus Action, nor Reaction. It still requires a lot of invocations, unless you just pick it for the armor, and forces you not to pick other very strong invocations. With this change, you would need to take 3 levels in warlock, and all warlocks would be viable for multiclassing, making the class as a single class more viable. With 2 levels of hexblade, you get eldritch blast + agonizing blast, devils sight, hex blades curse, shield and medium armor proficiency, attacks with cha.Īlmost all optimized builds, for all classes, take 2 levels of hexblade. This will also make warlocks less abusable as a dip class. (for a breakdown of the different pacts and their strengths in 5e, see here It is a very simple fix, just a few lines of code, and Wyll could finally live up to his name (if we chose too). Ranger was massively reworked, I think that should be done with other "trap choices" too, especially pact of the blade warlocks. But pact of the blade, as written, is more or less useless. If you want you can add other XGtE stuff to, especially eldritch smite would be welcome, but it would not be necessary, just cool. It is just that other subclasses can ALSO use the pact of the blade effectively. ![]() ![]() I do not think hexblade warlocks will ever be introduced, but they still would be very good with hexblades curse etc. ![]() So you get a weapon, shield and medium armor proficiency, and can attack with cha. Imo what should be done is adding hex warrior to the pact of the blade feature. Ever since it was introduced I have never seen anybody play fiend etc. But that obviously is not fitting thematically (Mizora is not the Raven Queen), and hexblade as a patron is annoying since it is so centralizing. Since the archetype is very interesting, many are requesting playing as a hexblade. Devils sight, thirsting blade, improved pact weapon, eldritch smite, lifedrinker. If does not matter what weapon you take, you will never really outclass eldritch blast and hex, even with sharpshooter and similar feats.Īnd eldritch blast takes one invocation to be good, whereas pact of the blade, to stay competitive, requires almost ALL of your invocations. He is not called "the eldritch blast gun of frontiers" after all.īut pact of the blade warlocks have famously been very bad in DnD before XGtE. Wyll is obviously supposed to be a meelee warlock. ![]()
